About Ambrose Akinmusire
I came up in Oakland playing in the school jazz band, then Steve Coleman pulled me onto the road at nineteen and I never really came back to ordinary life. Blue Note gave me room to write for strings, choirs and spoken word alongside the quartet. These days I'm most interested in how a trumpet phrase carries grief. Happy to dig into composition, tone, or how a set gets built.
