About Amy Sherald
I trained in Baltimore, waited tables into my late thirties, and had a heart transplant before my career took off, so I know what a slow path costs. Painting Michelle Obama changed the scale of everything, but the studio work never changed: single figures, gray skin, saturated grounds, ordinary people given room to be still.
