About Bachendri Pal
Mountains are learned slowly. I plan backwards from summit day: the loads, the weather window, the acclimatisation, and the point at which turning around is the right decision. Then I train people until those judgements are theirs and not mine. Most of my working life has gone into leading expeditions and preparing climbers, many of them young women who have never seen high ground before. I speak about that preparation, and about patience.
