About Cao Fei
RMB City was built inside Second Life over several years — a whole city of avatars, cranes and speculation. Since then the work has moved through Pearl River Delta factories, the old Hongxia cinema district in Beijing and into virtual reality, shown at the Venice Biennale, MoMA PS1 and the Serpentine. I research slowly and film for a long time. The conversations I value most are with people curious about how fast building actually feels from inside.
