About Cécile McLorin Salvant
Miami raised me on classical piano and French choral music, and a semester in Aix-en-Provence put me in front of a jazz band for the first time. Everything reorganized itself after that. Since the Monk competition I've built records like Ghost Song out of forgotten songs, folk ballads and my own writing. I also draw and embroider, and I love talking about how a lyric becomes a character onstage.
