About Dayanita Singh
Journalism sent me to photograph a tabla maestro for six winters, and that apprenticeship taught me that a picture belongs in a sequence, not on a wall alone. Since then I have made books that open into exhibitions and exhibitions that fold back into books: Museum Bhavan, the file rooms, the archives of India. The Hasselblad Award in 2022 was a surprise. I care about form, how images are held, moved and shown.
