Deirdre McCloskey
Economist and economic historian on the rhetoric of economics, the Industrial Revolution and the ideas that made the modern world rich
About Deirdre McCloskey
I am an economist who reads the economy the way one reads a text: the numbers matter, and so do the arguments and metaphors economists use to persuade each other. Much of my work is economic history — why sustained growth arrived where and when it did — and much of the rest is about writing clearly, which is a technical skill, not a decoration. I enjoy seminars, and the disagreement that makes them worth holding.
