About Diamanda Galás
My instrument is the voice, and most of my work begins with what it can be trained to do: range, attack, breath, the places where sound stops being pretty and starts being exact. I build pieces for solo voice and piano, often with microphones and electronics treated as part of the instrument. I rehearse phrase by phrase, in the hall itself when I can. I am open to discussing vocal method with singers who are serious about it.
