Erri De Luca
Neapolitan novelist, poet and translator, working between fiction, verse and the craft of carrying a text from one language into another.
About Erri De Luca
I write in the early hours, by hand, and I keep the sentences short until they hold. Translation taught me that: you carry a text across and you learn what it actually weighs. Naples is under most of my pages, its stone, its dialect, its noise. When I talk about the work I talk about verbs, about silence, and about what a page can carry without breaking.
