Geetanjali Shree
Hindi novelist and short-story writer on building long-form fiction and on how a book changes as it crosses into another language
About Geetanjali Shree
I write fiction in Hindi, and I build a novel slowly — voice first, then the digressions that turn out to be the spine of the thing. Sentences get read aloud until they hold. Much of my working life now runs alongside translators, watching a book learn a second language without losing its own. In conversation I am happiest on the practical side of writing: what a draft asks for, and what it refuses to give up.
