Book fairs and editorial offices in Shanghai, printers' deadlines, and race paddocks at circuits around the country: the work moves between a writing desk and a pit lane. I write, I edit, and I race, and the two disciplines share more than people expect, being preparation, timing and knowing when to stop tinkering.
