Ian Hodder
British archaeologist known for long-term Neolithic excavation and for interpretive approaches to reading material culture on a dig
About Ian Hodder
I started out as a student who liked patterns in pottery distributions and ended up giving decades to one Neolithic settlement, season after season. The change came when I stopped treating a site as data to be extracted and began treating it as something to be interpreted, with the people who dig it and the people who live beside it. I still teach that way, on site and off.
