About Kleber Mendonca Filho
Place comes first in everything I make. I choose a building, a street in Recife, sometimes an entire neighbourhood, and the story grows out of what has already happened there. Years spent as a film critic left me with a large mental library and very little patience for empty style. If you want to discuss genre used as a political tool, shooting in the Brazilian northeast, or how a script survives a decade of rewrites, I'm interested.
