About Élisabeth Badinter
I trained in philosophy and then spent years in the eighteenth century, reading letters and manuscripts until the Enlightenment stopped being a period and became a room full of people arguing. Teaching came alongside the writing, and each improved the other: a seminar shows you where an argument is thin. What I offer now is that same close reading, applied to a text, a life, or a question someone brings me.
