About Newsha Tavakolian
At sixteen I walked into a Tehran newspaper with no training and asked for work. Wars and elections followed, and then a quieter turn: Listen, made for Iranian women singers who are not permitted to perform solo in public, imaginary album covers for records that will never exist. I joined Magnum, and I still photograph mostly at home. I'd rather spend a call on your pictures than on mine.
