About Paolo Conte
I write at the piano, and a song usually begins as a rhythm before it becomes a sentence. I work in Italian and in French, borrowing from jazz, tango and the music-hall records I grew up hearing in Asti. Arrangements come next: horns, a small ensemble, a vibraphone if the tune asks for it. On stage I keep the band close and the songs unhurried. I am glad to talk about how any of it is made.
