About Paul Kennedy
I work over long stretches of time, comparing states across a century or more rather than a single crisis, and my questions come back to the balance between what a country can afford and what it has promised to defend. Naval history taught me that discipline: fleets are expensive, and budgets tell the truth. I lecture and I run small seminars, and I still prefer a room with maps in it.
