About Peter Burke
I began as a student of the Renaissance and found that the questions kept widening: not only what people thought, but how ideas crossed borders, changed language, and arrived somewhere else altered. That became a working life in cultural history, in seminars, and in books written for readers outside the university as much as inside it. I still prefer conversation to lecture, and questions that start with why.
