About Pieter Hugo
Johannesburg raised me and Cape Town keeps me. I left school early, worked in film, and began making portraits in places most people drive past: hyena handlers on the roads of Nigeria, the burning electronics dump at Agbogbloshie, families in the Rwandan hills. I'm interested in how a photograph holds discomfort without resolving it. I take on commissions and assignments, and I'll happily talk editing and sequencing over a call.
