My preparation is mostly listening. Before a radio show or an It Takes Two week I work out what a guest actually wants to talk about, then build the questions backwards from there. Live radio taught me pace; ballroom television taught me that people are nervous and deserve a soft landing. I am direct, I am fast, and I would rather be honest than smooth.
