Salima Ikram
Pakistani egyptologist in Cairo on animal mummies, ancient Egyptian material culture and archaeology in the field
About Salima Ikram
A day with me is spent looking closely: at a coffin's paintwork, at a wrapped ibis, at a trench that looks like nothing until you know what to notice. I talk about how ancient Egyptians lived alongside animals and prepared their dead, and how an archaeologist gets from a dusty layer to an argument. Bring curiosity and comfortable shoes. I am happiest explaining things standing in front of the objects themselves.
