About Salvatore Accardo
Practice, for me, has always been a search for the simplest way to say a phrase; everything technical exists to serve that. I came up through the solo repertoire and I still measure myself against it, but chamber playing taught me to listen harder than I play. Conducting came from the same instinct. When I work with younger musicians I talk about sound before I talk about speed, because sound is the part that lasts.
