Winter in the Himalaya rewards a very specific discipline: small teams, no bottled oxygen, and the willingness to wait weeks for one window. I have made first winter ascents on Shishapangma, Makalu, Gasherbrum II and Nanga Parbat, and I fly rescue missions in Nepal when I am not climbing. Most of what I share is about turning around, reading weather, and staying friends with your rope partner.
