About Simon Schama
I started in archives, chasing paper trails that most people would find unbearable, and discovered I wanted to tell those stories out loud. Books came first, then teaching, then film, and each one changed how I write: a camera makes you stand in front of the painting and account for it. I like taking people through galleries and centuries at the same pace, and arguing about what we see.
