Tim Flannery
Australian scientist, mammalogist and climate communicator, with decades of field research across Australia and the New Guinea highlands
About Tim Flannery
I began in museum collections, describing mammals from drawers of specimens, and then spent years in the New Guinea highlands where undescribed animals were still moving through the forest. Fieldwork taught me how fast a landscape can change, and that pushed me toward writing and speaking about climate for general audiences. I still work across both: careful natural history on one side, plain language about what it means on the other.
