About Yasmine Hamdan
I collect dialects the way other writers collect notebooks — Kuwaiti, Palestinian, Lebanese, Egyptian — and let the grain of a word decide the melody. Soapkills came out of a Beirut with no infrastructure, which taught me to make records out of very little. Singing 'Hal' on screen for Jim Jarmusch put that private language in front of strangers. I like conversations about lyric writing and singing in Arabic.
