Afternoon Bake and Tea Table in the Jewellery Quarter

Guests arrive at a converted factory kitchen in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter to find benches set for two, ingredients weighed and ovens already warm. The afternoon opens with a walk-through of the two bakes on the schedule, a traybake and an iced sponge, then everyone works in pairs while the host moves between benches, tasting, offering fixes and taking questions about live television, tent days and interviewing under time pressure. Bakes go into the ovens together and come out to be finished, iced and judged lightly, with nobody sent home. The group then sits down to a proper tea table with sandwiches, scones and everything made that afternoon. Photographs are taken at the end, and each guest leaves with their bake boxed.
