About Takashi Murakami
Museum retrospectives in Los Angeles, Doha and Versailles gave me room to show what Superflat means: Edo screens, anime cels and postwar Japanese image-making pressed into a single surface. Kaikai Kiki, the studio I run across Tokyo and Saitama, employs painters, sculptors and animators, and put on the Geisai art fairs for younger artists. What I enjoy most now is walking people through the workshop floor and showing how a canvas actually gets built.
