Heath Walk and Expedition Archive Afternoon in Hampstead

The group meets mid-morning in Hampstead and walks an unhurried loop of the Heath, stopping at the ponds and on Parliament Hill while the host talks through the Himalayan seasons that shaped British climbing, from the south face of Annapurna to the south-west face of Everest and the smaller trips between them. Lunch follows in a private upstairs room nearby. The afternoon is spent with expedition material set out along a long table: original photographs, sketch maps, gear lists and correspondence, taken in order, with the host explaining what each object was for and what went wrong. Guests are invited to bring one photograph or one question of their own for the closing hour. The walk can be shortened for anyone who prefers to join at lunch.
