Large-Format Picture-Making Day at the Geldern Studio

Six guests arrive at a converted workshop studio on the edge of town for coffee and a first hour spent looking, with a small group of large prints set out on the wall and discussed slowly and without technical talk. The morning then turns to the view camera itself: setting up on the ground glass, working the movements, and the discipline of choosing one frame rather than many. After lunch the group works on location at a nearby interior, each guest making a single considered exposure with the host directing where the camera stands and why. The afternoon closes back at the studio, comparing the day's compositions against the prints seen that morning and talking about how single pictures are built into a sequence.
