Open Rehearsal and Masterclass in a Manhattan Recital Hall

Guests arrive at a recital hall on the Upper West Side and take seats close to the instrument. The first hour is an unedited working rehearsal — passages repeated, tempi tested, pedalling reworked — with short spoken notes on what is being solved and why. Three conservatory pianists then play in turn and receive detailed coaching on voicing, hand distribution, and holding a line across a long movement. The final hour is given to questions from the room on building repertoire, memorisation, travel and practice on the road, and what preparing a full Rachmaninoff cycle demands. A reception follows in the green room, where the marked score from the rehearsal is left out for guests to look through before the evening closes.
